My husband and I have been planning a trip to Rybotycze in October 2009 for quite a while. My entire maternal family is from there. My grandfather, Max Schenker ( Jacob Menachim Schenker) was born in Rybotycze in 1891 and died in NYC in 1978. His mother (Esther Glickel Rothenberg Schenker) and his three sisters (Rifka, Hinda and Malka) all died in Rybotycze in 1895 in a cholera epidemic. I was hoping to find a Jewish cemetery there and to discover, if possible, their tombstones along with the tombstones of other Schenker relatives. My Mother's mother's family is also from Rybotycze. Their family name isPolaner, Yormark, Ward and Kestenbaum.
I have been looking at internet material for months now and was astounded to find, just today, these recent photos of a restored cemetery there. I had seen photos on the web of a largely abandoned Jewish cemetery in Rybotycze before but had no idea that anybody had restored the cemetery.
My husband and I will be leaving for Krakow and Rybotycze in about two weeks. Anybody who has any information at all please don't hesitate to get in touch with me.
